Dal Lake

Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir

Dal Lake is the most famous and beautiful lake in Kashmir. It is spread over about 18 square kilometers and is often called the “Jewel in the Crown of Kashmir.” The lake is surrounded by the Zabarwan Hills and offers magnificent views throughout the year.

Dal Lake is famous for its colorful shikaras (traditional wooden boats), luxurious houseboats, floating gardens, and floating vegetable market. Tourists from all over the world visit the lake to enjoy boat rides, stay in houseboats, watch beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and experience Kashmiri culture.

The lake supports fishing, agriculture, tourism, and transportation for local people. However, pollution, weed growth, and urban development have affected its water quality. Conservation projects are being carried out to protect and restore the lake.
